They combine wonderfully with everything.
They're a gateway to all techniques (oil, watercolor, acrylic). They can be used in all mediums: greasy (essences, tar), aqueous, dry (pencils, pastels, blanc de meudon)... and allow you to work equally well in greasy or lean mediums.
